The Gaps are a Gift

Recently at church, I was worshipping and sensing the pain in the hearts of people who felt they had missed out.

Missed out on a good Mum, or maybe missed out on a Dad, missed out on a partner, an education, an opportunity, missed out, missed out, missed out.

I could almost hear the thoughts in people’s head. “I can’t experience joy, because I never had a Dad to love me well”. “I can’t be whole because my childhood was not whole.” The list goes on, the pain goes on, the deficiencies go on, the gaps are real, and the pain is acute.

As I pondered these voices I heard another voice.

It wasn’t the voice of modern psychology, or the voice of modern medicine, or the voice of human wisdom,  it was the voice of the Holy Spirit,  the only voice that has answers where there are no answers.

The only voice that brings perspective from another plane, a heavenly shift.

I heard the words: “The Gaps are a Gift”. You see the gaps are where God fits in. No gap, no room for God.

Every gap in our world is a place waiting for God to fill.

Every gap in our past is a place God wants to inhabit and restore, every gap in our present is a place crying for more of Him.

If humanity had no brokenness, there is no room for a Saviour, if our past is perfect, there is no place for a redeemer, if our present is all put together, there is no place for a Prince of Peace, and if our heart has no holes, there no need for the Holy One.

It’s a truth, we seem to always forget, we can’t be holy without knowing our holes. We can’t be saved, without needing a Saviour, and we can’t be fully human without knowing just how human we are.

We meet God in the gaps and they become our table of intimate communion.

Don’t despise the gaps in your past or your present, allow them to be places God can fill, a Holy meeting place with your Saviour King.

The Gaps are a Gift.
