An Unexpected Diagnosis and an Unexpected God
When the natural circumstances of life close in around us, an enormous door can open in the supernatural.
As many of you know by now, last month I receive quite a serious diagnosis, with reasonably aggressive treatment recommended.
I don’t tend to talk about the actual diagnosis, as I am still in the process of understanding some of the medical complexities around it, and I prefer to keep my attention focused on the goodness of God and His healing path.
However, it was unexpected and has taken some processing.
But also unexpected - though it shouldn’t be - has been the love, goodness, strength and hope that God has brought me throughout this time, directly through my own relationship with Him and through the love and encouragement of others.
It’s amazing how a trial can open up so much of the goodness and love of God.
When the natural circumstances in our life close in around us, an enormous door can open in the supernatural when we choose prayer, faith and the Word of God.
A couple of months ago, as the threat of this diagnosis loomed on the horizon, I did the only thing I knew to do. I withdrew into my love affair with God and quietly but intently sought His Word and His promises over my life.
I’m so glad I did.
He began to speak loud and clear: the whisperings of His love, fierce protection and promises weaving through the fabric of my heart, preparing me for all that was to come.
I remember the appointment where the specialist shared the diagnosis. After explaining it to me, he looked at me and said, “Kirrily, you are taking this very well.” I smiled and reminded this sweet doctor that I am a woman of faith and my life is in God’s hands.
I went home with Tim and shared the news with the kids - who were and are legends. I explained the diagnosis, but also shared God’s promises, and asked them to join me in facing the giant looming in front of us with a spirit of faith, hope and love. They each had their own unique reaction, but within days they were on page and life returned to somewhat normal - as normal as it can be in our home.
I began to journal my journey, and the pages read like a love letter from God. Promise after promise anchored my spirit in hope and strengthened me for the unfolding journey.
God’s Word has been a lifeline and a constant source of strength, encouragement and hope.
My immediate and extended family, my church family and my friends have surrounded me with love and care, which makes the journey of faith and courage so much easier. Over the past three weeks, I have already begun to see miracle upon miracle unfold in my life as God has broken into my world with His goodness.
When the world closes in around you, the doors of heaven begin to open before you. Make sure you look up and listen.
Much love,
Kirrily xx
