Fearless
Perfect love casts out fear.
There are many things I am grateful for over the past couple of months. One of them was being invited by my courageous friend Ps Anna Giles to speak at her women’s conference, Fearless, in Far North Queensland.
This conference happened to fall on the weekend of a bone marrow biopsy and the doctor’s diagnosis of the results.
I knew this was the timing of God. Being called to speak to women about fearlessness amid the possibility of a life-altering diagnosis was a stunning gift.
So often in life, our greatest threat is not the circumstance we are facing, but the sneaky, pervasive and suffocating spirit of fear that jumps in the car right alongside it.
Often it is not the circumstance that overwhelms us, but the anxiety and fear that comes in its wake. Fear has the power to paralyse us and take us out even before we aim up at the fight in front of us.
So, as my blood was being analysed by doctors, I continued to analyse the purity and power of the blood of Jesus. In my study, I came across a statement from E. W. Kenyon’s Jesus the Healer:
“Worry and fear poison the bloodstream. Faith in the Lord Jesus purifies it.”
And I knew fearlessness was the way forward.
But how do we become fearless when a roaring monster is screaming right in front of us?
I began to look to the Lord and sensed His whisper to speak to the women about His deep, wide and endless love being the place where fear is overcome. Or, in the words of John, the Apostle of Love:
“Perfect love casts out fear.” 1 John 4:18
And this has become my story - a love story that calls us beyond the voices of this world to the One who loves us with His life.
Preparation for the Fearless conference forced a deep dive into God’s Word and an engraving of love and courage upon my heart that positioned me for what was to come.
