Back to the Dressing Room

Last night most of Australia was glued to the NRL Grand Final.

Now, whilst I am definitely not a footy girl, I love my boys, so I snuggled in to watch the game.

We were going for the Penrith Panthers (though I secretly felt the Melbourne Storms could do with a win to encourage a State in the midst of one of the worlds longest lockdowns!).

It was a tricky first half, and my heart was going out to the boys in black (the Penrith Panthers), as Melbourne was storming ahead. As the first half was drawing to a close, one of the commentators said the following words:

“It’s time for these boys to get back to the dressing room and hear from their coach.

And the Spirit of God spoke to my heart.

So often we are busy on the field of life playing our absolute best. Still, in the hustle and bustle of the game we find ourself on the back foot, seemingly on the losing team, demoralised and discouraged.

It is in these moments that it is time to ‘go back to the dressing room and hear from the coach.’

On the playing field, after several tackles, big runs, and losses, we can forget who we are and to whom we belong.

But back in the dressing room, we can breathe, listen to the voice of the coach and remember who we are and to whom we belong.

Remember that we are chosen when we feel rejected.

That we are loved and complete in God’s eyes when we feel inadequate and far from good enough.

Remember that we are capable and strong.

And remember that we already have the victory because God is our side.

We need to regularly get off the field, go back to the dressing room and hear from the coach. Stop, breathe, listen, recover, remember. Maybe even put on a fresh set of clothes and get back on the field.

Happy Monday All xx
